Alts tools move into the everyday advisor workflow

Luma's platform updates push alternative investing into the tools advisors already use, and the rest of the month's releases follow.

Alternative investments are becoming a standard feature of the advisor workflow, and this month's wealthtech releases show the tools catching up. Luma Financial Technologies, an exhibitor at the Morningstar Investment Conference in Chicago in late April, has expanded its Lifecycle Manager so advisors can assess investment opportunities, manage portfolio risk and track alts transactions from one screen, and it collaborated with Morningstar to include portfolio analytics for structured products inside Morningstar's Advisor Workstation.

Luma has designed the updates around the advisor's existing workflow, so reaching alternative assets does not require leaving the tools advisors already use. Its Creation Hub lets advisors configure products themselves, choosing underliers, structure configuration and product variables. The marketplace filters income solutions by issuer, price, product type, underlying assets, age and state of issuance, and compares annuities by projected annual income, account value growth and efficient frontiers. Tara York, Luma's director of strategic initiatives, said both advisors and clients have growing demands for this type of information.

The rest of the roundup, reported by Wealth Solutions Report, runs through the same theme: tools for the whole advisory practice. At Envestnet's Elevate summit, the firm revealed three partner integrations, and COMPLY published a playbook for chief compliance officers, while Vestmark rolled out its VAST portfolio management tool. Catchlight began offering personalized AI-generated prospect emails, Seeds Investor partnered with Citizen Mint on private impact investments, SYSTM Wealth Solutions hired a former Envestnet executive, and AmeriFlex launched an automated financial planning solution.

Vendors are embedding alternatives into the tools advisors already use, and Vestmark's VAST rollout extends a portfolio management push that has already landed it overlay work on Vanguard's new customizable models. Morningstar's scoreboard keeps giving advisors a defensible reason to sell planning and tax work instead of fund picks. For a practice still routing alternative products through a specialist down the hall, these releases are a signal that the gap is closing — and the default desk is becoming the platform itself.

The practical consequence for an RIA sits in the suitability file, not the interface. The technology now does the capital-markets math, but the firm still owns the analysis behind a ticket. As structured products get easier to compare, the burden shifts to documentation and client education — the parts of the workflow no platform can automate.
