55ip, a J.P. Morgan Asset Management subsidiary, has expanded its UMA capabilities for the RIA channel, WealthManagement.com first reported. The firm is making managed and custom model portfolios and equity SMAs available in a unified managed account. It had previously offered tax-managed UMA capabilities only to a select group of enterprise partners.
Model portfolios and SMAs on the platform come from J.P. Morgan Asset Management and BlackRock. 55ip expects more asset managers to join the lineup later this year.
The 55ip Portal manages the full target UMA model, while the firm's ActiveTax technology produces tax-transition recommendations and ongoing account management.
“The rapid growth in the RIA channel highlights the issue of scale for advisors,” Gautam Sachdev, CEO of 55ip, said in a statement. He said adding a UMA to a practice can ease the infrastructure burden of taking on new clients.
